Karton – Ozzie Rippas!

Posted on: 07-26-2011 Posted in: Blog

Karton have been kicking around for quite a while now and I have to say they are definitely one of Australia’s best-kept secrets.
One of my first gigs way back in the day was actually supporting them in one of their earlier Perth shows. I’d been buying their tunes for a while at that stage and always thought they where quality.
It wasn’t for me personally though till around the 2009 -10 that I saw the quality of their records go to a whole other level.
With their remixes of Skeptical (Sound of Habib), Spacetrip 82 (Sound of Habib), First contact (Audio Harzard), MSG (Valium) and many more the size and epicness of their tunes went to world class levels. I was consistently blown away again and again by the quality of their production and the diversity in their tracks.
Soon followed their album “For All Seasons” which represented quite clearly how diverse the boys are in their production. Moving more away from their dance floor bangers, “For All Seasons” represented an artistic take on what Karton are about musically.
Blurring the line between electronic music and what sounds like live recordings is no easy task and few producers can really nail it. When you’re listening to “For All Seasons” it’s hard to tell most of the time whether it is electronic music or in fact a live band recording. This clearly shows Karton could quite easily write any style and pull it off with a glossy finish.
Moving forward to 2011, Karton have another album in the works due for release soon – “Find the Constant”. From the singles released already it seems this one is more dance floor orientated and covering a wide variety of electronic genres.
Their first single “Bang” is the best track that I have heard all year hands down and I’m keen to hear more!
It looks to me that the Karton boys are really coming in their own as of late. Their dj sets and tunes keep getting better and better and they with out a doubt one of Australia’s best exports to the worldwide EDM community.

Come down and check them out @ Brown Alley on Friday August 5th and it’s FREE!!
