Andy Hoffman 0

DJ Andy Hoffman – Bio

Andy’s love for broken beat music goes back to the days when he first heard saw The Chemical Brothers “Block Rockin’ Beats” clip on Rage.  After years of searching for something with that fresh new broken beat sound, he got given the Freestylers debut album, ‘We Rock Hard’.  From then on he was addicted and started going out to nights like ‘Gimme A Break’, ‘Fractured’ and ‘Beats Working’ back in 2003 to satisfy his needs.  He started buying records before he even got his first set of decks only a few years back, and after seeing artists like ‘Aquasky’, ‘Uberzone’ and ‘Plump DJs’ touring he decided he wanted to be a DJ.
Andy started off playing house and warehouse parties and was asked by Ben from Rock Like This to play at their new monthly night, ‘Fitzroy’s Finest’ @ Alia.  He became a resident there and now gets regular gigs at Lounge’s ‘Bass Camp’, ‘In Rotation’ and ‘Against The Grain’ @ Brown Alley, ‘The Late Show @ Revolver and RLT’s nights at Miss Libertine & now Laundry.  He’s supported some major international acts like Hybrid, Deekline & Wizard, Skool Of Thought, Splitloop, Drumattic Twins and one of Andy’s biggest breaks idols, Rennie Pilgrem.  He has also played alongside Aussie locals like Kid Kenobi, Dopamine and Nick Thayer.
Now being part of the Rock Like This crew,  you’ll be able to see Andy Hoffman playing everything from breaks to electro to dubstep and drum n bass at most RLT gigs around Melbourne.

citizen.com 0

THE DJ NOT THE WEB SITE

” I have always had a passion for music. It has an impact on people that can’t be described by words. From the dawn of civilisation rhythm and the beat has allowed people to escape their own realities and unite with others. It is now, more than ever, that we all need to unite again and let the beat take control”.

-Citizen.com

Citizen.com began his DJ career in Melbourne in early 2000 playing Break-beat at 3D Nightclub it was not long before he was supporting the like’s of Koma and Bones at Melbourne’s Premier Breaks Night, Fractured at Brown Alley as a resident. No small feat for a relative newcomer to the scene.

Citizens’ early success and obvious talent saw him win first prize in one of Melbourne’s most respected DJ competitions and place second in an Earthcore competition. Citizens’ evolution continued with his involvement in the production of the Fractured, Rock like this, Darkbeat and Soft Spot events becoming more prominent.

In 2006 Citizen answered the calling, abandoned his ambitions as a Biological Scientist to concentrate fulltime on DJing, event production, management and music production with the ROCK LIKE THIS crew. This proved a wise move with 2008 seeing the launch of Citizens hugely successful break-beat weekly BASS CAMP at the Lounge. BASS CAMP has attracted international Breakbeat legends including Baobinga & ID, Groove Diggerz, Friendly and JHz. As well as having the local and interstate guests routinely destroy the dance floor. They asked for it and they are going to get it! 2009 will see the first BASS CAMP mix CD released, original tunes from the BASS CAMP family (International/Interstate and local producer’s) check www.lounge.com.au for more info.

You can find Citizen pushing the sounds of Break-beat on a Weekly basis. As well as pulling a rabbit out his hat Citizen also plays 70s-80s, Classic hip-hop, funk, disco, D n B, Electro, House, Techno, Tech and Fidget.

In 2009 you will find Citizen.com as Marketing and Promotions Manager at the LOUNGE NIGHTCLUB. He is also part owner of Rock Like this Productions, and creator of Soft Spot Productions. He also manages to juggle several side projects including Daredevils and Roxy Moron. As well as working with Scratch Foundation, on his current Project “The Brother Hood of Beats”. A promising new Melbourne Label already connecting with artists globally.

Amongst all the madness Citizen manages to hold the fort with residencies at Revolver Saturdays @ Late Show, Brown Alley Fridays @ ROCK LIKE THIS and Against the Grain, Workshop Fridays @Dropping Phat, BASS CAMP @ Lounge, Rock Like This events @ Miss Libertine and Laundry.

Watch Citizen in 2009 as he continues to move forward in the dance music scene while also focusing on a NEW local label “Brotherhood of Beats”  with partner in crime Matty Blades, who are dedicated in getting only top quality party breaks back into the scene.
