Rock Like This Pres.. Against the Grain – June 27th, 2008

AGAINST THE GRAIN
(Launch Party Melbourne)
@ IN ROTATION [BROWN ALLEY]
From the record label behind The Freestylers and Krafty Kuts comes a brand new club night for Melbourne with label boss and Breakbeat heavyweight
‘Skool Of Thought(uk)’ as resident DJ.
Launching on Friday 27th June with the support of local crews Rock Like This & Darkbeat – Against The Grain promises to be the premier breakbeat event in Melbourne.
Residing between Australia and the UK – Skool Of Thought is the guy
responsible for the enormous Groove Armada ‘Superstylin’ and Freestylers v
Pendulum ‘Painkiller’ breaks remixes. He has appeared on the front cover of
3D World, described by IDJ magazine as ‘an underrated genius’ and recognized
by DJ magazine as helping form the ‘nu skool breaks’ scene.
He has produced countless breakbeat monsters over the years including Heavyweight Breaks Volumes 1 & 3, Breakspoll 3, numerous 12″ singles and is
currently celebrating the success of his debut artist album with Ed Solo
entitled ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’. To top it all off he has just launched a
third label called ‘Cool & Deadly’ with Tayo. Phew! Time to take a lesson
from Skool…
“I can’t wait to get back to Melbourne” enthuses Skool Of Thought. “It’s the
most music savvy city in Australia which is why I chose to launch the night
here first”.
This event will be Australia’s first ever breaks night which is actually run
and backed by one of the scene’s top record labels – a label which has alanced underground credibility with fame of holding the record for the biggest selling breaks record ever for ‘Push Up’ by the Freestylers, which
sold well over 100,000 copies! But those attending ‘Against The Grain’ will
be in for more than just your usual breaks night.
“Breaks is the core of what we do and now is great time for mashing it up
with genres also, it’s something I focused on for my ‘Random Acts Of Kindness’ album and it’s always been the same for Krafy Kuts too” he adds.
“A splash of baltimore, dubstep and bassline house will give the night a
twist and the speakers shaking”.
To launch this great night we will see the likes of;
